For years, one of the biggest pain points in the world of adventure vans has been the same frustrating question: “How do I sleep comfortably in a van if I’m over 5’10” or want more than one low-profile pillow to rest on?”
Until now, the answer usually required compromise. Either you installed fiberglass flares into the sidewalls of your van, or you settled for sleeping at an angle, curling your legs, or giving up altogether and settling for a different lifestyle. Not anymore.

At Off Highway Van, our engineering team thrives on solving real problems that real van lifers face every day. And we’re proud to introduce a breakthrough that redefines what’s possible in camper van design: the first expandable aluminum bedframe engineered specifically to accommodate taller van dwellers—without sacrificing structure, mobility, modularity, or living space.
Rethinking Limitations of Standard Bedding Systems
When you're designing a camper van, every inch counts. Especially in the sleeping area. Many fixed bed platforms and fold-out bed options force you into a rigid east/west sleeping configuration (side-to-side), which works great for people under six feet tall.
But for anyone taller, the lack of horizontal space creates discomfort or forces you to add flares—an added cost, and a permanent change to the body of the van.

We decided to rethink that limitation entirely.
Introducing Our Expandable, Aluminum Series A™ Bedframe for Adventure Vans
This innovative new bed system slides out on an engineered aluminum track system, transforming the bed from a space-saving day mode into a full-length bed that runs north/south (front to back)—allowing people up to 6’6” to sleep flat and comfortable inside a standard Sprinter van. And yes—it’s still 100% removable.
Here’s why it’s a game-changer:
One-Size Doesn't Fit All
We're all different sizes and have different needs to sleep comfortably. You shouldn't have to compromise. With our expanding bedframe, you get up to x in more length to comfortably sleep compared to the standard East / West configuration.
STANDARD (EAST / WEST)

EXPANDING (NORTH / SOUTH)

No Flares Needed
Tall people can now sleep comfortably without permanently modifying the van’s body. These flares are typically more about adding inches to the square footage of oyur sleeping area rather than making it functional anyway.
Strong, Lightweight Aluminum Construction
Built with aerospace-grade aluminum for maximum strength and minimum weight—core to Off Highway Van’s DNA.

Modular & Removable
Just like our static Series A bedframe, the expandable version can be fully removed when you need to haul cargo or reconfigure your interior.
Zero Structural Compromise
Unlike makeshift bed extensions or IKEA DIY solutions, our engineered track system maintains full rigidity and stability—whether expanded or stowed.

How It Works
In its stowed mode, the bed sits in a compact east/west configuration, optimizing living space and maintaining an open feel in the van. Stowed dimensions are 68" wide x 54" long to give you back your living space when your bed is not in use.

When it’s time to sleep, the bed slides out effortlessly on custom-machined tracks, locking into place in its extended north/south orientation. The mattress system was designed in tandem to accommodate this dual configuration, ensuring a seamless fit in both modes with no awkward seams or gaps.
Our Engineering Philosophy at Off Highway Van
This bedframe isn’t just a cool feature—it represents our core belief at Off Highway Van: good design solves real problems.
We don’t build cookie-cutter vans. We engineer every system, and design every surface—from water and power to cabinetry to sleeping setups—for real-life performance. We test our gear in the Utah backcountry, we prototype in-house, and we design for people who live life outside the box—including the tall ones.
Sleep Better. Go Farther.
Whether you're 5’9” or 6’6”, you shouldn’t have to compromise on comfort to enjoy vanlife. With our new expandable aluminum bedframe, you don’t have to.
